Sheets Market Data is a Google Sheets Add-on that adds stock market data to your spreadsheets.

Why

This project was created out of scratching my own itch. I had been doing various financial analyses using Google Sheets and I found myself copying and pasting a lot of data and that data getting stale fast. So I created a number of scripts to help automate the process more and thought it might be useful to others.

Learnings

Lots of people were apparently interested in solving a similar problem.
Having a distribution channel already in place for a product makes it much easier to get in front of potential users, then when trying to generate interest and your own distribution channels from scratch. Watch this space for good businesses to be built on the Google Workspace app store.
Google's App Scripts are still in a very early stage, which presents an opportunity. Creating app scripts is not that easy to figure out and there are a lot of challenges and hiccups you'll face trying to do it. Figuring it out gives you a leg up on the competition.
